Dimitsana in 2 hours

A first introduction to Dimitsana’s historic centre.

If you only have two hours, stay within the village. Begin in the centre, walk up towards the Clock Tower, continue to the Public Historical Library and Agia Kyriaki, and return through the stone lanes. The distances are short, but the slopes and steps mean the walk should not be rushed.

Stops

Stops

Village centre

Begin in central Dimitsana and get your bearings before entering the steeper lanes of the historic settlement.

Clock Tower

Walk uphill to the Clock Tower, one of the most recognisable landmarks of Dimitsana. The surrounding streets also open views across the tiled roofs and the mountain landscape.

Public Historical Library

The Library is inseparably linked with the School of Dimitsana, founded in 1764. Its present building stands at Agia Kyriaki Square on the site of the old School and dates from 1845.

Agia Kyriaki and the historic lanes

Continue around Agia Kyriaki and return through the old lanes, where stone houses, doorways, arches and fountains show the built character of the settlement at close range.

Before you go

Before you go

Wear comfortable shoes for the slopes and stone surfaces. If you want to go inside the Public Historical Library, check its current visiting hours before setting out.
