Dimitsana in the newly formed Municipality of Thisoa
In 1834 Dimitsana was included in the new Municipality of Thisoa; in 1875 the municipality was renamed Municipality of Dimitsani.
Why it matters
The entry links Dimitsana’s older local identity with the administrative reorganization of the new Greek state.
By the Royal Decree of 9/21 November 1834, Dimitsana was included, together with Zygovisti, Paliochori and Radou, in the newly formed Municipality of Thisoa. The attempted renaming of Dimitsana itself as Thisoa did not prevail; in 1875 the municipality was renamed Municipality of Dimitsani, with Dimitsana as its seat.
This administrative layer shows how the historic community entered the institutional geography of the modern Greek state while preserving the local name that carried its older memory.
