Dimitsana Clock Tower designated a monument
The Clock Tower of Dimitsana is officially designated a monument, recognizing its architectural, technical, artistic and symbolic value.
Why it matters
The 2025 designation transforms the Clock Tower from a beloved local landmark into an officially protected cultural monument.
On 6 May 2025, through Government Gazette D 264/06.05.2025, the Clock Tower of Dimitsana was officially designated a monument. The decision covers the tower together with its clock mechanism and recognizes it as a landmark of the area and as a rare example of this type of clock-tower construction.
The designation gives institutional weight to a monument already central to the public image of Dimitsana. Built between 1928 and 1934, from Doliana marble and with the contribution of Dimitsanites of New York, the tower connects local architecture, technical history and the memory of the diaspora.
