2nd Summer School for the Cultural Heritage of Rural Areas
The 2nd Summer School for the Cultural Heritage of Rural Areas was held in Dimitsana from 21 to 28 July 2019.
Programme
The programme approached rural cultural heritage through anthropology, folklore, ethnomusicology, museology, traditional architecture and crafts, food culture, biodiversity, heritage interpretation and cultural management. Twenty-five participants attended, mainly postgraduate students, educators, heritage professionals and representatives of local government.
The educational programme was accompanied by cultural events and field activities. These included a hike through the Lousios Gorge and an introduction to the area’s cultural landscape, as well as participation in events connected with the Traditional Stone Craft Workshop in nearby Lagkadia.
Organisation
The school was organised by the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in cooperation with the Region of Peloponnese, the Municipality of Gortynia, the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation and its Open-Air Water Power Museum, the Dimitsana Cultural and Conference Centre, Mainalon Social Cooperative Enterprise and other local organisations and residents.
