1st Summer School for the Cultural Heritage of Rural Areas
The 1st Summer School for the Cultural Heritage of Rural Areas was held in Dimitsana from 28 July to 5 August 2018. On the official page, the series appears under the heading “The Cultural Heritage of Rural Areas”, while the first school itself is identified by the specific title “Rural Areas as Cultural Heritage”.
Programme
The inaugural school examined rural heritage through folklore, ethnomusicology, cultural management, museology, agricultural biodiversity, traditional architecture, heritage interpretation and educational practice. Nineteen participants attended, including postgraduate students, educators, heritage professionals and representatives of local government.
The programme combined lectures with field activities and cooperation with local organisations and residents. Among the field activities was a hike through the Lousios Gorge.
Organisation
The school was organised by the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in cooperation with the Region of Peloponnese, the Municipality of Gortynia, the Dimitsana Cultural and Conference Centre, the Open-Air Water Power Museum of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation and other local organisations and residents.
