Welcome

Explore the village

Built high above the impressive Lousios Gorge, Dimitsana is not a village to rush through. Its stone lanes, arches, old mansions, quiet courtyards and the scent of fir trees create an atmosphere that invites you to slow down and look more closely. Start your walk from the main square, pause for coffee or something sweet, and continue uphill towards the Clock Tower for wide views over the Arcadian landscape.

History here is not confined to museums. It lives in the stone façades, the old schools, the churches, the historic library and the paths that connect the village with the gorge. At the Open-Air Water Power Museum, you can see how water once powered workshops and everyday trades, while the library and churches recall Dimitsana’s role in learning, faith and the Greek War of Independence. After your walk, sit down at a local taverna and taste mountain food at its best: local cheeses, warm bread, slow-cooked dishes and flavours shaped by the seasons.

For nature lovers, marked trails descend towards the Lousios Gorge and lead to places with a special sense of stillness, including the monasteries of Philosophou and Prodromou. Wear sturdy shoes, carry water and let the sound of the river, the shade of the trees and the views into the gorge become part of the visit. In the colder months, bring warm clothing. Even in summer, evenings in Dimitsana are pleasantly cool.

Parking is available at the entrances to the village. From there, it is best to continue on foot, because much of Dimitsana’s charm is found in the details: a balcony, a stone arch, a quiet alley, an unexpected view between the houses. Our website is designed to accompany you before and during your visit. Browse the Timeline for stories and dates, explore the Collections for inspiration, and discover what to do, which places to visit and which routes to follow. Whether you come for a day or for a long weekend, Dimitsana has a way of making you want to stay a little longer.
